Fox mask

Whipped this up for a masquerade party. I did a Google image search for "fox mask", found one I liked and adapted it to my materials.
Now it adorns a lampshade in my art room.
What did you make this weekend?

More! More! More!

This is one of the latest up at my Etsy shop. Oh how I love polymer clay and found objects.
I consider myself a better thinker in 3 dimensions. Pop on over to the shop and take a peek!

I wish I could tell you I have been napping and eating bon bons, but instead I have been distracted like a mildly concussed kitten. There has been a lot going on and my art time got pushed out the way to make time for friends in need.
But if people can't count on you when they need you, you aren't much of a friend, are you?

So yes, re posting to be resumed shortly.

I have to figure out why the computer is ignoring my SD card.
And finish (ahem...start) on my Halloween costume.

Lately I have been listening to Radiolab podcasts while I sketch. I like that they give me ideas to explore visually and verbally. It also gives me stuff to talk about with my brother who is a crazy brilliant scientist/musician.
And, side note--while I type this my whirling dervish mother-in-law is painting my dining room walls.

Samhain

Samhain (pronounced sow-wen) falls on October 31. It is a day to honor the ancestors, celebrate the final harvest and prepare for the coming winter.
It is traditional to set an extra place at the table for your recently departed. This year we will be welcoming my Nana. It's a good opportunity to talk with the kids about our family history and to lift the curtain on death.  It has become so separated from living that we tend to forget that it is the natural order of things.
We still participate in the secular Halloween- it is fun and fun is good!

Back in Business

I have put some work up in my Etsy shop. It only took sticking to my to-do list. Who knew? The plan is to upload 3-5 new pieces every week.
I am still loving the polymer clay, but my art time is currently being used to create a stole for an interfaith minister. Ah embroidery! It's like drawing but with thread. Also, have I told you about my new sewing machine? It's a Singer. I have never sewn on a Singer before. HOLY HOLY HOLY. It's like driving a sportscar--all precision and engineering. If I could physically purr, I would.

This is one of the pieces in the Etsy shop. More to come later! Enjoy your week.

Reconciling what I WANT to do versus what I NEED to do.

Just returned home from a 2,000 mile road trip. I have SO MANY ideas, and so many photos to look through.

However, my studio is an ungodly mess. It would possibly qualify in my father's scale of cleanliness as a "rat's nest"--which is a mere 3 steps away from "trash heap".

I am cleaning one corner as I am working in another. Hopefully I can slog through the cleaning today and get back to the full-on mess making creating tomorrow.

My TO DO list floweth over.
